  • · outdoor running shoes
  • · some thin layers of clothing so that you can
  • · remove the outer layers after your warm up to prevent you from over-heating
  • · wear extra layer(s) if it's cold and for after the session
  • · a thin waterproof layer - perhaps a jacket that can be folded into a very small space and put in a pocket
  • I apologise for the late notification and will definitely try to improve this going forwards.

In some future weeks you will need a Bicycle each but not this week !

Training

We do our best to make training sessions challenging and fun, while teaching new techniques and skills.

Our Thursday Swimming sessions- run from 7 pm until 8 pm – we are able to get access to the changing room from 6:45 pm. Please try to arrive in time to start the session at 7 pm. We must leave the building by 8:15 pm

These are Swimming sessions and are conducted at the Simon Balle School Swimming Pool

    • These sessions usually comprise
    • Swimming Technique
    • interval training for endurance and stamina
    • mostly Frontcrawl but also other strokes
    • various drills and training devices
    • races
    • combinations of the above.

Our Friday Land Based sessions run from 5:30 pm until 6:30 pm.

In the Winter months they are held indoors at the Amwell View School Gym.

       These sessions are usually

      • Running
      • Circuits
      • Balance and Core Strength
      • Agility, Balance, Co-ordination, and Speed
      • Combinations of the above

From Friday 1st April 2011 this session will be at the Simon Balle School Playing Fields.

    • These sessions usually comprise
      • Running
      • Cycling
      • Transitions – Running, Cycling and fast transitions from Running to Cycling
  • Please try to arrive before 5.30 pm on Fridays in time to start the sessions as close to 5:30 pm as possible. When we are using bikes, please remember to ensure that the bikes are working and set up for the person who will be using it. It takes up too much time from our sessions to spend time doing thing like this that should be done beforehand.

Fees may be paid in advance at discount rates, please contact the Junior Section Co-ordinators for more information. There is no need for parents to complete any additional paperwork each week but please keep us informed if contact numbers or medical conditions change

Non-members are very welcome to come to any session although parents will need to provide emergency contact details each time. Your first two sessions will be at the member rate. Our non-member price for all is £5 per session

Prospective Members   Please contact Sally Crowther our Junior Co-ordinator  before  coming to your first session so that we are ready for you and have time to welcome and introduce you.

We will send an e-mail notice if there are late changes to our schedule. Please ensure the Junior Section Co-ordinator has your current e-mail address for these and other important notices

Please ensure that you bring enough warm clothes with you - especially for the Friday sessions (cycling, running and Transitions). It can get pretty cold, even in the Summer.

Athletes should bring a drink (water will do) and we suggest that several thin clothing layers is the best way to stay at the right temperature in all conditions. To avoid over-heating it would be most useful to make running shorts or thin running tights the last layer. It is important to have something warm to put on after the training.

Racing

Though triathlon is fundamentally an endurance sport Youths (Under 17) and TriStars (Under 15) always race over shorter distances. The table below gives typical distances for each age group. Note that the bike leg will be longer if it is on tarmac.
